Book Recommendations For People Who Like DRAGONS

This post was inspired by Top Ten Tuesday, a blogging prompt hosted by The Broke and The Bookish

1. Dragon Slippers by Jessica Day George

*gasp* I love this book so much. And how can you not love a book that starts with the words "It was my Aunt's idea to give me to the dragon."
I mean, come on. Plus, each dragon hoards a different thing. For one, it is shoes. Another, old books. And one even hoards dogs. And then best part? Even though it is part of a series, (of three books) It was originally written as a stand alone novel. Which means you don't need to read the other two books if you don't want to start a series.

2. A Dragon's Guide To The Care And Feeding of Humans by Laurence Yep and Joanne Ryder

The book is actually very, very short. More of a short story or novella really. But it is so cute.  Dragon's in modern day California, magic sketch books, a dragon with the personality and attitude of a cat...

3. The Two Princesses of Bamarre by Gail Carson Levine

A dragon isn't one of the main characters in this book, but she does play a major part. And she is more of the "catch-knights-and-eat-them" sort. But that doesn't keep her from having a developed character.  The story actually revolves around the two princesses. One is adventurous and the other is shy and like embroidery. But when a dangerous sickness that has been sweeping the nation strikes the adventurous sister, it is the shy sister who has to go adventuring. Added plus: Cute sorcerer guy.

4. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

Granted, most of this book is centered around a very short person with hairy feet, that is no reason to pass over this story, dragon lovers! The whole plot moves around Smuag, the giant, dwarf eating dragon. And for all the people that have watched the movies and never read the book:

1. I'm sorry
2. The book is better (Less "forbidden love" and more questing)

5. Beowulf

Yep. You guys just knew I would bring up some sort of classic-y story. If you like Ballads, (which I am pretty sure you don't) go and check this out! (On the plus side, I'm pretty sure everyone dies. But hey, I could be mixing it up with another old questing ballady thing)

So what have you read? Any good dragon suggestions for me?

M.K.

  6. Besides LOTR, Eragon and Draykon, I'm woefully ignorant of most dragon literature. Thanks to you and Jaime @ The Dancing Lawn, I've got some more to check out!

I take it you haven't read the Draykon series by Charlotte English? I think you would like those, MK. I've only read the first one, but it's so fascinating! Mysterious stones, murder mystery, seven different worlds, what's not to love???

    2. Another one to check out would be Bound by a Dragon by Linda K. Hopkins. That one has some really graphic violence in some sections though...

Oh sweet! I'll have to add those into our list on Goodreads.
