October's Beautiful Books: Capes, Coffee Shops, & Cake

This link up was created by Cait @ Paper Fury and Sky @ Further Up And Further In! Be sure to check it out!

  1. What inspired the idea for your novel, and how long have you had the idea?

I actually planned on writing this book for Camp NaNoWriMo in April...but then my current WIP (In A Dream) bullied its way in. So I took a fresh look at it, revived the plot and here I am!

  2. Describe what your novel is about!

Superhero teenage girls in New York. It's also kind of a parody of most superhero stories...
Lily running a blog about the two of them (under her secret identity name) is a nod to Superman writing articles about himself in the newspaper.

  3. What is your book’s aesthetic? Use words or photos or whatever you like!

  4. Introduce us to each of your characters!
You've got Kace,  adrenaline junkie, hot pepper girl who is OBSESSED with heights. And sadly, she cannot fly.
And Lily, who is more calm and collected. Big family, gets along well with everyone...

They kind of balance each other out because Kace forces Lily to do crazy things and Lily keeps Kace from being too crazy (most of the time)

  5. How do you prepare to write? (Outline, research, stocking up on chocolate, howling, etc.?)

I tried doing Camp NaNo without an outline and discovered that I cannot write without one. I plotted the outline earlier in the year (July?) and I'm doing some mild research right now...Much chocolate hording and coffee gathering is also in process and I'm scrambling like mad to get my Second Draft done BEFORE NaNo starts.

  6. What are you most looking forward to about this novel?

It's so different from what I normally write (but at the same time, it's something I can write)
Also, it's NOT my normal WIP.

  7. List 3 things about your novel’s setting.

    1. Modern Day NYC.
    2. There is a lot of skyscrapers and rooftops (because Kace) and a ton of coffee shops (because Lily)
    3. Also private school

  8. What’s your character’s goal and who (or what) stands in the way?

Kace is just trying to survive this stupid history project. She was forced into it with this weirdo after she got into trouble (Free scaling the school during lunch hours and forcing the principle to come out with a bullhorn can do that sometimes) And Lily just wants to lead a normal life. *sniff*

Lol. More like boy drama, superhero drama, best friends getting into trouble and usually out of it and some crazy people trying to unmask superheros.

  9. How does your protagonist change by the end of the novel?

    For the better, hopefully...

  10. What are your book’s themes? How do you want readers to feel when the story is over?

I want readers to feel energized when they are done. That's always how I feel when I walk out of a action/superhero movie and I want them to put down the book and have to go for a run or dance crazily all over their house. There is also that feeling you get exiting a action movie where you feel like you could do anything...I want that feeling.

    2. *aggressively tries not to quote Newsies* *fails* "Write what you know, so they say, all I know is I don't what to write or the right way to write it, this is big lady! Don't screw it up"

  4. I love superhero stories! There aren't enough superhero novels in the world, in my opinion. I also love the sound of Lily, she's very much like me. Good luck with NaNo!

  6. YAY more on this amazing superhero story! :D (And "a parody of most superhero stories" sounds great! I mean, I'm a fan and all, but sometimes I want to see someone poking fun at the regular tropes... xD)
