I Went Ice Skating Once, So Now I Am An Expert! Bow Before Me.

Yet another "Write What You Know '' post. Except it is more like write was I know...

So ice skating...

(If you are a figure skater or something, feel free to mock me in the comments)

  • You'd think it would be like roller blading and it is. Just the ground is more slippery and it is cold and hard and you will probably die!

  • No matter how good you are, there will be eight and ten year olds doing graceful spins and splits and looking fabulous.

  • Occasionally, they come in and clean off the ice. They smooth out all the gouges, sweep up human teeth and hose away the blood and drag off the dying! And while this is happening, the rest of us stand off to the side and listen to Christmas music playing

  • Except, for some reason, we could only understand two songs. A song from the Muppet's Christmas Carol and All I Want For Christmas, which naturally was belted out by every girl in our group....much to the confusion of the guys.

Wait. Why are you singing? Why did you all start singing at the same time? Do girls have hive mind?
  • That one guy who keeps sprinting around as fast as he can go and passes between you and another person so close you can feel the wind...

And makes you wonder how you could "accidentally" break one of his ankles...

    Just one....

  • All the random hockey dudes who are just standing there off the rink...Are they waiting for practice? Are they just trying to creep everyone out?

  • Bruises the color of grape juice and the size of your entire knee cap. *wheee*

  1. Oh, I love ice skating! It's been years since I've gone, but I always loved it so much. I like it a lot better than rollerblading (never got the skill to do that).

But I can say without a doubt, these are all true. Also, you have that high and mighty figure skater who asks everyone to leave so she can 'practice' and you're in her way. Had that happen before. It's an open rink, people! Go rent out a space if you aren't willing to share!

    1. We didn't have anyone asking us to leave, but they did set up four cones in the center and this ten year old was practicing in there. Though I think it was more for her guidance then ours. (And 95% of the people there were clinging to the sides anyway)

    1. How often do you go? Like an annual tradition thing?

    2. We went like every week a couple years, but last year because of some health issues I wasn't able to go. This year I'm hoping for the chance to attend at least a few times. :)

    1. My knee still is faintly purple...At one point I managed to tangle up my legs, spin myself around and fall on my back. I was laughing so hard that I couldn't get up for a minute and some random person stopped and was like, "Are you ok?"
      And I was like, "No."

  4. I haven't ice skated since I was six, but man, I experienced a lot of this when I was learning to roller skate :)

    1. Like the skates with four wheels or the roller blades? I always preferred the roller blades, but my sister liked the skates better...

  6. Sounds cool. (Get it? Cool.) *laughs like I'm hilarious*

At first I came here to say no one should be bowing before you as I rule the world, but seeing as the post was funny, I suppose I shall allow you some glory. XD

All joking aside, this does sound fun. My sister likes to sing All I want for Christmas is you. Well, she makes fun of it, we all do. Its funny to see Mariah Carey try to sing it now. XD

Maybe one day I'll be able to ice skate. I can't even roller skate, though. XD

    1. Yep, I mock All I Want For Christmas Is You too...
But like in the way I think chick-flicks are silly, but still watch them.
(Action movies are better. Fights, explosions, fire fights, car chases...)

  7. I went ice-skating once... I fell so many times that these two guys grabbed my arms and supported me in an attempt to teach me how to skate. And I finally wasn't wobbling and they let go of me and were like, "Look! You know how to skate now!" when I fell flat on my face again. Xd

I can rollerblade though, skating is just... eek!

    1. Me and the other girls said that we needed boyfriends who could ice skate so we could just stand there and be pulled around...

Every time I thought I was doing pretty good, I'd stop concentrating and SPLAT!

  8. Awesome post, Mary Katherine!:) I love ice skating, but roller blading...eek! (Roller Blading is way too dangerous). It's always nice when Christmas/holiday music is playing when your ice skating
(Also just wondering, did the girls start singing while they were on the ice?)

    1. We were not singing on the ice...At least not the song. We did sing a happy, peppy song called "The Mermaid" about ships sinking and people going to their deaths

  9. Ice Skating! Rollerblading! Yes to both! I love those things...

Don't forget about the group of people racing each other, and how annoy-- wait...that's me and my family... *clears throat* You heard nothing.

But the walking around off the rink when you're too lazy to take your skates off, and you're holding a cup of hot chocolate and walking around like KLOMPF KLOMPF SKDJKJSHDFD KLOMPF KLOMPF KLOMPF AHHHHHH

On the other hand, rollerblading can be more dangerous when the main place you rollerblade is your neighbors paved driveway that slopes downhill...and your rollerblades were Goodwill finds that have no brakes.

But seriously, Ice Skating is FUNNNN!!!!! Now I'm totally motivated to go and get out on the ice! (Maybe even go skiing as well, while I'm at it...)

    1. Yes! We never took off our skates when we were off the rink, so we walked around on them. And the guys were like, HOW ARE YOU WALKING ON THEM SO EASILY?
And we were like, This is hard? You shouldn't EVER wear heels...
