Q&A! // Blogoversary Week

[Ivie Brooks]

1. Why did you start blogging?
Oh dear. I should have known this was coming...Well, here is my overly Slytherin answer. To start a author platform so that I could lure people in, get them addicted to my work/make them love me so that they would buy my books should I ever get published. Also so that I could get some unprejudiced feedback on my work.

2. Tea or coffee?
Depends on when and why...I'll drink just about any coffee, but am fairly picky about my tea.
And coffee is more of a social thing (going out to get coffee) or a something to get me started. I drink coffee in the mornings and tea in the afternoons, especially when puzzling through a plot or reading a non-fiction. So basically: Coffee=Power. Tea=Thinking.

3. If you had to choose between making your first draft into a movie or publishing the third draft in book form, which would you choose?
The third draft being published. I would rather have a ton of people read something I worked really, really hard on and gave my all then to have a movie BASED off an idea I had. Plus, I'd rather see my book in print then as a movie, if I could only choose one.

And quite selfishly, people who will connect with the author if they love her books. They won't remember the author of a book that a movie was based off of and they're probably connect with the actors instead.

[Liliah]

4. Why do you insist on making me cry?
Because its who I am, Liliah. Also I tasted the salty taste of human tears...and liked it.

5. What is your favorite WIP you have done so far?
Probably Capes, Coffee Shops and Cake or Twelve Golden Windows.

6. What is your favorite things about writing Twelve Golden Windows?
Karin is amazing to write and I love all the twists in the story and new takes on the original, especially since I based it off snarky thoughts I had while reading the tale for the first time.

 [Quin Ley]
 7. If you were to switch bodies with a character (from a book, movie, etc.) who would you switch bodies with?
ANY fictional character? *stares off into the distance in wonder*
I honestly have no idea.

8.  If you were to marry a fictional character who would it be?

Tadashi from Big Hero Six (except he's dead...probably)
He's there for his friends (at least for the first bit of the film) and look how he helps Hiro and works with him through his problems and tricks him into wanting to go to school. I feel like he would be someone who is always there for you.

Phillip from Sleeping Beauty.
What? I had to put one classic Disney prince in here. AND HE TALKS TO HIS HORSE.
Plus his Dad is hilarious.
Flynn Ryder
Do I even have to give a reason?
Though to be real, buy me cupcakes and I'm yours

9. What are your favorite book(s)?
Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, The Girl From Everywhere by Heidi Heilig, Faro's Daughter by Georgette Heyer, The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer...just to name the first few that popped into my head.

 [Skye]
10. Favorite movie?
Probably the first Avengers Movie (Natasha's opening scene was GOLD) or The Man From Uncle. Or quite possibly the Quiet Man.

11. Favorite fictional character?
I'm going to go with Kaz from Six of Crows, Natasha Romanoff from the Avengers, and  Percy and Annabeth from the Percy Jackson series.

12. Favorite song?
What I listen to changes from time to time (and based on what I'm doing and what mood I'm in) but these are some of my favorites: Hold My Heart by Lindsey Stirling, Siberian Sliegh Ride by The Trans Siberian Orchestra, If Your Reading This by Tim McGraw, What Ifs by Kane Brown, and Tightrope from The Greatest Showman.

 [Lila Kims]

13. What's your favorite time of day?
NIGHT! I always feel super energized after it gets dark, that's when I get all my writing done and I happen to LOVE stargazing...so it works.

14. What's your favorite day of the week?
Saturday? No school and lots of time to run around and to get work done...But probably Wednesday or Tuesday?  That tends to be when I get the most work done.

15. What's your favorite season of the year?
AUTUMN! Cinnamon-y coffee and fashion boots. Crisp fall leaves.

16. Where's your favorite place to write?
Anywhere quiet. I like to mix it up.

[Natasha Hart]
17. What was your last serious injury?
I actually have never had a super serious injury. I mean, I've had stitches and twisted my ankle pretty bad...but never anything that lasted more then a day or two. So never?

18. What do you always carry with you?
Lip chap and a hair tie in the left pocket, knife in the right. When I leave the house, I have my phone and emergency cash.

19. You like spies. What is your favorite spy movie and spy book?

OOH! SPY QUESTIONS!
My favorite spy book (fiction) is The Gallagher Girls series by Ally Carter. The first two books (I'd Tell You That I Love You But Then I'd Have To Kill You and Cross My Heart and Hope To Spy) are probably my favorites.
NON-Fiction spy book though! That would be Spy Craft by Robert Wallace and H. Keith Milton. Filled with very densely packed pages of information about cold war era spy gadgets and some declassified (obvious) stories about spies during that time.
My favorite spy movie would by The Man From U.N.C.L.E. because it is amazing and manages to NOT be your classic spy movie and yet...be a classic spy movie?

BONUS ANSWER! My favorite spy is Virginia Hill, a agent with the OSS during WWII. She has a peg leg. A PEG LEG. And what did she do? Named it Cuthbert. Because that's what you do when you have a wooden leg.

At one point she was hiking over the Alps (with a peg leg. That's pretty hard core) and she sent a message to headquarters. It was something along the lines of: We're doing ok, but Cuthbert is giving me trouble.

To which the operator at Headquarters, who didn't know about her leg or at least didn't know what she's named it, said: If Cuthbert is giving you trouble, have him eliminated.

[LHE]
20. If you had to live the life of one of the characters in your novel, which one would it be?
My characters don't lead happy lives. So...one of Brent's cats?

21. What genre of music is your favorite?
I don't really have a favorite...but I tend to listen to country the most so lets go with that.

22. Books or movies?
BOOKS!
They don't need electricity and you can beat people with them.

Plus they smell good.

Usually.

23. Would you rather self publish or go traditional publishing?
Tradition is where I'm headed now...

24. Favorite fruit?
Chocolate.

That's a fruit, right?

Or citrus. That works to.

[Catherine]
25. If you were a fictional heroine, what would be your ideal fictional hero?
Oh boy. Buckle up kids. This is going to be a long ride.

I want someone who would be an equal. Someone who would be a shield mate, someone who would have my six.  But at the same time, someone who'd know when to back off and let me have time by myself. Someone who has their own hobbies and while they're supportive of mine and I of theirs, we don't need to be constantly together and have time to do things on our own or just with friends. Someone who would be able to keep up with me and to challenge me to be a better person. Someone who, while they'd look out for me and protect me if need be, would also not be the overprotective love interest guy that we see so often in books now. Someone who'd know when I need to be comforted and when I need to work of steam with a long run or some boxing. Someone who knows I can take care of myself, but will still stick up for me.

And since I have this strange feeling that this is actually you sneaking in the "what do you want in a man" question without me reacting you it sarcastically, I'd like to add that Dream Guy should be able to fluently speak another language, preferably one that I don't know  so that our kids would grow up fluent in multiple languages. (English, ASL, Whatever I become fluent in. Whatever he is fluent in, and something that we would start learning together.)
And of course then he could teach me a new language

26. Princess or shieldmaiden?
SHIELD MAIDEN!

27. Seeing as how you've had it both ways, which do you like better: long or short hair?
Actually, I liked the short hair best.  The only thing I didn't like is it was too short to put in a pony tail when working out or cooking. :(

  1. Great answers! I didn't know you liked Trans Siberian Orchestra. (I love them!)

Chocolate, especially dark chocolate, is a fruit. *nods*

    1. How about chocolate COVERED fruit? That should be like...double fruit.

      Delete
    2. *nods* Yes, I concur with that statement. I mean, chocolate cover strawberries should be double the fruit. I've heard of chocolate oranges, too. That's, like, twice the nutrition right there.

    3. CHOCOLATE COVERED CANDIED ORANGE PEELS ARE LIFE!

    4. Where have they been all my life?! *squeals*

    5. I have never heard of such a thing, but I must investigate. XD I'm thinking chocolate covered chocolate is also a double fruit.

    6. YES! But make sure they have actual orange peels, not just vague orange flavored gel.

    1. I recently brought it along on a road trip on audio book. My brothers kind of laughed at first, but pretty soon I was ready to switch to the radio and they kept saying,
      "Hey? Where's the next CD?"
      "Shush. We're trying to hear."
"What, you don't have the next book?"

  3. I really enjoyed this!
*nods* Chocolate is definitely a fruit. Only, dark chocolate is the best. lol

  4. The story about Virginia Hill...moi lokot...that was GOLDEN. I LOVE IT

I get a kick out of this "writers love chocolate" thing...but honestly...I'm not a huge fan of it. I mean, I like a bite or two now and then...but it's not my favorite thing. But minty stuff, now...me likes!

    1. Milk chocolate is basically fake chocolate. But, have you tried dark chocolate?! *hopeful tone*

      Delete
    2. Actually...dark chocolate I like the least...please don’t freak out! I really prefer chocolate with caramel in it!

      Delete
    3. This is kind of hard to process. xD Seriously, though, everyone has their own opinions, and chocolate with caramel sounds amazing. Have you had dark chocolate with salted caramel? If you haven't, I have to warn you, they're addictive. lol

      Delete
    4. Hmmm...maybe I better not try them, then. The last thing I need right now is a candy addiction (right after my cheese-it addiction).

      Delete
    5. White cheddar cheese-its are especially addicting. Which isn't exactly a good thing since I hear MSG can lead to a big amount of health problems.
You need to try them! xD Maybe just buy a couple...they're SO good.

    6. Stop it. You guys are making me hungry and I'm about 3 seconds away from making a chocolate and cheese platter.

  6. Whaaat? you started this blog with the intention of luring people in and getting them addicted?? MK HOW COULD YOU. WE TRUSTED YOU. *pretends not to be addicted*

Books are great for beating people with! especially LotR! especially especially if you had one of those ones that have all three books together. You could definitely do some damage with that.

"If Cuthbert is giving you trouble, have him eliminated." xD xD

And of course you like night best. Night would be the most Slytherin time, wouldn't it? (Also the most Batman time.)

    1. DON'T TRUST ME! Its a terrible decision, really.

And if you have a whole series of books, especially a really long series (looking at you, Warriors...) then you can set up a small catapult or something...

Would you consider Batman a Slytherin? (I suppose it would depend on which Batman we're talking about though...)

      Delete
    2. (A+ quote use xD)

Yesss, but if you catapult the books, you don't have them anymore?? so I'd probably be content with the shorter range of slamming them on the head by hand. And then running away with my book. However, if you develop a good book catapult design, I could be persuaded.

Hm. I don't know?? What are the identifying characteristics of a Slytherin? (Also, yes, are we talking movies or comics, and which version? because there are way too many xD)

      Delete
    3. IDK...I only really know the Dark Knight ones...(That and the one from Batman V Superman, but we shall not speak of him. Also one from the 70's, which we shall also never speak of.)

I think it depends on the batman, but I'd say that he's a Slytherin or a Gryffindor...

      Delete
    4. Is the one from the 70's the one Alfred references in the Lego Batman movie?? xD

I think that sounds about right. But what about Robin, then? (Wise-cracking Dick Grayson, say?) (Although he's not in the movies [I'd guaranteed watch one if he was], so...) Would he be a Gryffindor? a Hufflepuff?? I need to go read all the Sorting Hat's poems and figure out exactly what puts people in their houses.

      Delete
    5. Yes and its super scary. MY EYES!

I mean, I don't really know Robin well enough. Gryffindor?

  7. I drink coffee in the morning and then tea in the afternoon too. Mostly because, I try not to over caffeinate. The Man from Uncle is such a good movie! I wish there were more like it.
