The First Book You've Ever Read Challenge

The great, the fabulous, the amazing IVIE BROOKS! is working to publishing her debut novel soon and still has the time to hit me with not one but TWO tags in the same post! Since I have no other tags to work on (currently) I'll be splitting them back apart (see keep your eyes peeled for part two!)

 Rules That I Will Corrupt

-Tag at least one person
- Share what was the first book you've ever read
- Share why you read it in the first place
- Share how it inspired you to become a writer

Instead! Since I just did a tag and *gasp* followed all the rules? Am I sick? (Will keep you updated on my health if this is, in fact, a sign that the end is near.) I'm going to ignore all the rules (I might tag someone if I feel like it...) and I'm going to tell you all about the books I read as a child! (And by "ALL" I mean two.) And what I learned about writing/how they helped me on my author journey/etc

I feel a little worse about corrupting this tag because when I was working on it I looked at the person who'd tagged Ivie and realized it was the creator of the tag...Second person down the line and I'm already trashing it.

The guilt! It's too much!

Not to much to do it the right way of course....
Just enough to make me not completely enjoy it.

Maybe I'll tag two people? IDK...

THE BLACK STALLION

The first book I remember sitting down and reading by myself was The Black Stallion. And did you know the Black Stallion is the first IN A SERIES? Cause it is. And I read 90% of them...My favorite's would be The Black Stallion and The Island Stallion. (I actually like the Island Stallion better...)

This is probably the books that gave me a love of reading...though I don't remember because I was six or seven at the time...

But the reading of books (of anything really) is one of the greatest tools I writer has. You learn so much about the craft by studying the work of others.

The Pony Pals//First Plagiarism!!!

I may have already started (and quit on) a handful of wild horse and girl stories by the time someone said to my Dad, "You have little girls that like horses? Here! Have these 2363648995412 pony pal books!"

Seriously. The series NEVER ENDED.

At one point I decided "You know what? These books are ridiculously small. It's stupid. I could be using these as bookmarks in my other books (I was reading the black stallion and other novels at the time.) And so I decided to write down the first five (BY HAND) into a small notebook so I wouldn't have to carry around so many.

But then I stopped because I learned a valuable lesson.
Ok not really. I realized that writing by hand takes forever and I wanted to play outside and there was no time...

But here is what adult me says. Don't write anything that you don't love. Don't start a story that you don't want to spend time (A LOT OF TIME!!!) on.

(Oh, and don't plagiarize..)

I'm tagging two people because that will apparently make up for me completely ignoring the rules...

    1. You've read them too? That's crazy. You're the first person I've meet who's read them...(Aside from the daughter of whoever gave them to me...)

  2. MK, I keep thinking that you have topped out, that you cannot say another thing that is funnier than all the rest, but I was wrong, you have done it again!!!!!!!! :)

    1. ...

I'm not sure whether I should be insulted or honored...

Just wait. The crazy has only just begun to come out :)

    2. I'm so sorry, I did not mean it as an insult at all!!! I was just saying that you are awesome, and I love that you make me laugh! I appologize if I insulted you, that was not my intent. I always try to be funny, but it never works.

  3. Lion alive, I used to read Pony Pals all the time!!! Admittedly, they were my first plaguisim as well...I hand wrote my own copies - only I put my name and my friends names and used our own horses instead of the actual Pony Pals people/ponies.

So yeah...that’s kind how I started my writing career...

I have long since given away my Pony Pals books, but I still have all my Black/Island stallion ones.

    1. Ah, the plagiarism :)

Did you like the Black or Flame better?

  4. YOU ARE FANTASTIC!! <3 <3 <3

These sound familiar, but I just don't know if I've heard of them...

Everyone's talking about plagerism of their favorite books and they didn't even know it, and here I am, someone who never did that. Except, I may have taken a specific concept from a TV show and used it for a book I'm working on... or I should say a book on the backburner. XD

Well, you had to do SOMETHING against the rules otherwise I'd be very concerned for your health. I nearly fell out of my chair the time you followed all the rules. XD

    1. You've never plagiarized? Wow.
I didn't know you were one of the sweet innocent ones ;P

To be fair, the week I did that tag where I followed the rules, I was slightly bending rules not related to blogging....if that explains anything XD

    1. Oh my gosh! How many of you have read the pony pals? Before I wrote this stupid post I assumed no one had and *boom* suddenly EVERYONE has.

  6. Ugh! There were so many Pony Pal books!! I remember reading several of them, but even at a young age, I was decidedly leaning towards the Western style of riding and their overbearing English side annoyed me.

    Great tag!

    1. True...I read them before I really started riding, but remember that one chapter where they meet *gasp* A western rider? HOW CRAZY! HOW STRANGE! WHAT IS THIS HORRIBLE CREATURE?

    1. I tried reading the first black stallion boo to some kids I was babysitting...

You know that part on the beach when Alex is almost dying of hunger and thinks about eating the black?
      These kids were perfectly fine.
BUT THEN HE SEES THE TURTLE AND HE TRIES TO KILL THE TURTLE AND I HAD TO STOP READING AND CALM THEM DOWN AND TELL THEM IT WAS A BAD TURTLE, BECAUSE APPARENTLY YOU CAN'T EAT TURTLES WHEN YOU'RE STARVING TO DEATH?

      lol
