Quote V Quote Tag // Welcome to the Cringe Fest Where I Scream A Lot

Rules:
1. Thank the person who tagged you and link back to their post
2. Find at least three quotes you disagree with
3. Briefly explain why you disagree with each and counter it with another quote
4. Tag whoever you like
5. Include the graphic somewhere in your post

Since we all know how well I follow rules it should be no surprise that I will be...twisting this. You know, slightly. (Ok, a lot.) Instead of replying with another quote, I'm just going to make my snarky remarks and move along. Maybe there will be quotes I actually like at the end. Maybe not.

If you want to see how this post should actually look, check out Rakayle's post here. This is, in fact, where I got this post from.

When I saw this I was like OH BOY. HERE IT COMES. THE PERFECT OUTLET FOR ALL THE REALLY ANNOYING "Rules of a Lady" or "Gentleman Code" quotes I see.

Get ready for the cringe-fest!

1.

Never ask a woman's age or a man's salary.
Because a woman never lives for herself and a man never earns for himself.

UM. HELLO? THIS IS JUST. I AM CRINGING SO HARD. A WOMAN NEVER LIVES FOR HERSELF? EXCUSE ME?

THE REASON YOU DON'T ASK A WOMAN HER AGE IS MOSTLY A JOKE NOWADAYS
AND YOU DON'T ASK ANYONE WHAT THEIR SALARY IS BECAUSE A.) IT. NOSEY. B.) IT MAKES IT LOOK LIKE YOU ONLY CARE ABOUT HOW MUCH THEY MAKE

UGH

2.

No. 188 Rule of a Lady

The less you care, the happier you'll be.

In other words, "if you have no standards, everything goes. Don't care about anything and just be happy!"

3.

No. 2 Rule of a Lady

Always cross your legs when wearing a skirt. Always.

DON'T CROSS YOUR LEGS WHEN WEARING A SKIRT. ESPECIALLY IF YOU SKIRT IS KNEE OR ABOVE THE KNEE LENGTH. CROSS YOUR ANKLES, YES. PUT YOUR FEET BESIDE EACH OTHER, YES. CROSS THE LEG? NO.

4.

No. 125 Rule of a Lady

A b*tch barks and bites. A lady behaves.

I honestly have no idea what to say to this. Wow. BEHAVES. BE a good lap dog now and sit quietly and look pretty and BEHAVE.

5.

No. 203 Rule of a Lady

Your face is not a coloring book. Go easy on the makeup or you'll look like a clown.

Wow. Here is some advice. Just because you like wearing less makeup doesn't mean that people with smokey eyes and winged eyeliner are clowns. Yes, I'll grant you there are some times it doesn't look great. But guess what? It has to do with the application and maybe the how it goes with that person's skin tone. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH A MAKEUP TO FACE RATIO.

JUST BECAUSE YOU DON'T WANT TO WEAR A LOT OF MAKEUP OR BECAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE THE SKILL TO PUT IT ON WELL DOES NOT MEAN THAT OTHER PEOPLE LOOK LIKE CLOWNS.

IDK. DO I JUST NOT KNOW WHAT A CLOWN LOOKS LIKE? BECAUSE I CERTAINLy HAVE NEVER SEEN A CLOWN WITH PERFECTLY CONTOURED CHEEKS, SHARP EYELINER, AND FLAWLESS LIPSTICK.

I AM HONESTLY SO ANGRY RIGHT NOW THAT I HAVE TO ADD SOME CHEERY QUOTES OR I'LL JUST BE MAD ALL DAY.

BECAUSE APPARENTLY OUT OF QUOTES 2-5, I ONLY QUALIFY AS A LADY IN NO. 5. AND THAT IS LITERALLY JUST BECAUSE I AM TOO LAZY TO DO MORE THAN EYELINER, MASCARA, AND LIPSTICK. ALSO, I AM REALLY BAD AT EYESHADOW AND TOO CHEAP TO BUY A BUNCH OF STUFF. BUT I STILL LIKE MAKEUP.

SO YOU KNOW. IT'S JUST ME. THE GIRL WHO CAN WALTZ, HOLD EDUCATED CONVERSATIONS, DINE AT FORMAL DINNERS IN BOTH EUROPEAN AND CONTINENTAL STYLE, CURTSEY, WALK IN FLOOR LENGTH DRESSES, WALK IN THREE INCH HEELS WITH A STACK OF BOOKS ON HER HEAD, SPEAK FRENCH AND LATIN, AND QUOTE SHAKESPEARE.
OH BOY.
WHAT AN UNLADYLIKE GIRL.

*SCREAMS*

Start over, my darling. Be brave enough to find the life you want and courageous enough to chase it. Then start over and love yourself the way you were always meant to. - Madalyn Beck

If everything seems under control, you're not going fast enough. Mario Andretti

What about you? What did you think of the quotes? Which quote annoyed you most? Do you want to see the full list of  random"ladylike" things I can do?

  2. I now have a response to 4!

It annoys me because the people who write these think they A.) Can call other women horrible names and yet call themselves ladies.
And BEHAVE is something people usually tell children or women in a way to say be quiet.
Not that you shouldn't be polite. But it isn't saying polite.

And nobody ever tells a man to "behave." There are just so many other words they could have chosen.

  3. Not sure if I have heard of these "lady" rules. I think, though they might have been made a while ago. At one point no one wore knee length skirts. :)
Very interesting post Mary Kate! ;)

    1. The problem is they're all new and made by people who have no idea what they're talking about.

I feel like I've just completely corrupted this tag. *sigh* Why can't I just write one simple rule following post.

  6. I love seeing Megan's tag getting around!!! Whoever wrote those rules must not know what it means to be a real lady ... though I have seen way too many ladies that look like clowns in their makeup ;D And by too many I mean A LOT! Always makes me cringe.

fun post, and I really like that Aristotle quote at the end.
