Food + Snippets + (Almost) Halfway Joy

GUYS. TOMORROW MARKS THE HALFWAY POINT OF NOVEMBER! WE'RE ALMOST THERE!

And for those of you NOT doing NaNoWriMo...First of all, how smart of you! Saving yourself all that stress and madness! And secondly, there's no reason why you can't also have hot chocolate! You have ALSO survived November, (which is usually a rather cold and gross month.) SO TREAT YOURSELF.

Everyone needs a little cheering on, don't they? And what better way to do it than snippets and chocolate?

chocolate chaud recipe (for one)

***Note: This is SUPER rich, so you want to drink it out of a small cup, not a big mug***
I mean. Or drink a big mugful. It's not like I'm in any position to judge...

Chocolate chaud is just "hot chocolate" in French.

1 1/2 cup whole milk
1/4 cup chopped dark chocolate, at least 70%*
1 tsp brown sugar, optional
Squirt whip cream, optional
chocolate shavings, optional

SO basically the only thing you NEED is whole milk and chocolate. And yes, it does have to be dark. (JK JK. Go wild. Break all the rules. 'Merica!)
1. Turn on oven to preheat to 350 degrees
2. Turn off the oven. Stupid. Who makes hot chocolate in the oven?
3. Heat up the milk in a small saucepan. (Medium to low heat. DO NOT BOIL YOUR MILK, YOU HEATHENS.) Chop the chocolate, even though the recipe calls for the chocolate chopped and therefore you should have done it on your own time and the recipe is not obligated to tell you this.
4. When the milk is warm, add chocolate and brown sugar. Stir until melted. Then bring the mixture to a low simmer for 2-3 minutes or until it thickens. It should be like a hot pudding. Stir constantly OR EVERYTHING WILL MELT TO THE BOTTOM OF THE PAN AND YOU WILL CRY.
5. Pour into a small cup and top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings. Enjoy!

Also: I haven't quite figured out a way to make this in a microwave (Not as deliciously as I want it to be anyway.) So I'm just going to sit in my dorm and cry.

And now for an update on my project!

My alpha readers have all gotten back to me! And I've been working on TBP (The Big Project) this month. Obviously, its the end of the semester. There are final projects to be worked on, papers to be written, tears to be cried, stress to be felt, and colds to have!
Things have just been ramping up and I am going to go insane! Thank goodness I wrote most of my posts in advance and posts like this were partially written or I would have already died for work overload. (Just this week I have two papers, a presentation, and an exam.)
But I made progress on my story and that's the important thing!

Snippets:
Just for fun, let's have one snippet from the first chapter and one from the last chapter to be worked on.

SNIPPET #1:

“Fools.” He muttered as he flicked his cloak up further around his neck. He hesitated for the length of one angry breath and urged his horse on.
Ah.
He would be pleased to know that he was right. There were fools in the forest.
But only one. One that continued to ride deeper and deeper into the forest and was alone in the dark and wet woods.

SNIPPET #2:

“It looks like you’re teaching her your bad habits. Look at her. About to make off with all my oranges like a half-starved raccoon.”

So how has your month been going? Someone please drink some chocolate chaud for me!
