This post was inspired by this week's Top Ten Tuesday book blog linkup!
Kaz from Six of Crows
It's short and catchy and I would 100% name a cat this. Think how perfect it would be for a cat that's all black or grey and has white front paws? Like it has wee little gloves?
(Also, I could make jokes about CATTER-dam)
Thorne from The Lunar Chronicles
You know what's better than a big golden lab named Thorne? A BIG GOLDEN RETRIEVER NAMED CAPTAIN. It doubles as naming your dog after Capt. America and give you the ability to nickname your dog "Cap"
Legolas from The Lord of the Rings
I'm picturing a white Arabian...especially cute if he (the horse, not the fictional character) was friends with a shaggy bay Shetland named Gimli. (Though if they were mortal enemies, as ponies enjoy being, that works too!)
But for that matter, 10/10 would suggest getting an entire herd of Shetlands naming them all after the dwarfs from the Hobbit.
Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland (or basically any retelling)
Bonus points if the cat is black and white and you call it Chess and people assume it's for the colors of the game.
Percy (from multiple books)
Percy Jackson? A golden retriever.
Percy Blakeney, from the Scarlet Pimpernel? A golden retriever
Selina from Catwoman
The PURR-fect name for a black cat!
Kashmir (or Kash) from The Girl from Everywhere
A great cat name for a cat who is soft (and therefore a pun on Cashmere sweaters) and mischievous, like the fictional character.
What fictional characters would you choose as namesakes for your pets? Have you ever named a pet after a fictional character?
MK
I would name a nervous dog Sticky Washington from the Mysterious Benedict Society series... or honestly, I'd name a persnickity one Constance Contraire! They'd be unlikely friends, I assume. If I had anything of the ferret variety, I'd name it Gwin like in Funke's Ink series.
ReplyDeleteYou could nickname Constance Contraire as CC :D
DeleteGwin is a PERFECT ferret name!
I love all these ideas! (Especially the Shetland ponies with dwarf names--I may have to do that!)
ReplyDeleteWe have named some of our goats after book characters--last year, we had a Mr. Bingley, Mr. Darcy, and Mr. Knightly (triplets) and a Mr. Tumnus. :) My mom doesn't like naming girls after book characters, since it has to be on a pedigree, but I'm hoping to bring her around for this year's kids.
And there's so many hobbits that could also be Shetland name sakes!
DeleteThat or you just have to pick normalish sounding names and pretend they're not based on a book character...
Queen Lucy would be an acceptable horse pedigree name...(Though something a bit more *cough* unique? usually works well. Honestly, some show horse names? Oof)
I would totally name a Pomeranian "Sir Percy Blakeney"
ReplyDeleteAlso a grey cat as Puck (from Shakespeare as opposed to Blood races)
^Or more precisely a dog more like a Japanese Spitz as they fit the aesthetic better.^
ReplyDeleteOoh! That would be cute! And a black long haired cat named Marguerite?
DeleteI've had three cats all named after villains. Rumpelstiltskin, Loki, and Kylo-Ren.
ReplyDeleteWe call Kylo, Kyle a lot as a joke.
Kaz is perfect!
He would be the perfect addition to the evil trio XD
DeleteAlso, calling Kylo Kyle is AMAZING
A herd of Shetlands named after dwarves!!! I love it! Can you imagine yelling all of their names and feeling the Tolkien vibes? "FILI, KILI! COME HERE! THORIN, STOP BEING MEAN TO EVERYONE!" XD XD XD
ReplyDeleteI also love the idea of calling a cat, Chess.
You'd have to wear a big wizard hat and be constantly counting them :D
DeleteFun name ideas!
